Jungheinrich electric pallet trucks - powerful, versatile, durable

Transporting heavy loads is made significantly easier with Jungheinrich electric pallet trucks. These industrial trucks not only save energy and relieve strain on the back and joints, but thanks to their compact design, they are also easy to operate in confined spaces. With our buying guide, you can find a suitable electric pallet truck for your needs.

1. What are the distinguishing features of a Jungheinrich electric pallet truck?

With a Jungheinrich electric pallet truck (or jack), you can ergonomically pick up goods that can be moved from underneath, transport them in a power-saving manner and transfer them efficiently. For these tasks, suitable fully electric pallet jacks from Jungheinrich are available to purchase from our store.

Depending on the model, a three-phase motor performs the lifting, transport and lowering functions. These motors are generally powered by a high-performance lead-acid battery or lithium-ion battery. Many electric pallet truck models have an integrated charger for charging the battery. Electric pallet trucks are available in our online store exclusively as pedestrian-operated units. However, upon request, we also offer models with ride-on- or combined pedestrian and ride-on operation. Just contact our customer service to find out more.

How to determine the right drive type for your Jungheinrich electric pallet truck

Jungheinrich EJE 120 electric pallet truck

The electric pallet trucks we offer in our store are available as fully electric models. The transport, lifting and lowering functions of electric pallet trucks from Jungheinrich with fully electric operation are operated by an electric motor. You can conveniently control these functions via operating elements located on the tiller. Electric models enable effortless and ergonomic operation. Fully-electric Jungheinrich pallet trucks are characterised by their compact, heavier and robust construction, as well as their ability to deliver a powerful performance when it comes to transporting loads. Pallet trucks with an all-electric drive system are ideal for short distances and frequent use (depending on the model). Jungheinrich Performance Series trucks can even handle load transport on inclines and ramps.

Fully electric Jungheinrich pallet jacks are operated by a three-phase AC drive. When compared to a DC motor drive (generally found in semi-electric pallet trucks), they offer the following advantages and disadvantages:

Motor type DC motor AC motor
Functionality
  • Torque is generated via the attraction and repulsion of the stator and armature of two magnetic fields
  • Drive energy is generated via three magnetic coils
Advantages
  • Extremely robust and less susceptible to failure
  • Models without carbon brushes are relatively low maintenance
  • Converts battery energy evenly and is thus more economic in function
  • High starting torque with strong start-up
  • Moderate motor heating
  • Completely maintenance-free, as no wearing parts are present
  • Long service life
  • Also suitable for demanding transport routes (depending on incline function)
Disadvantages
  • DC motors equipped with graphite brushes wear out more quickly and require continuous maintenance
  • Only half the efficiency of three-phase AC motors
  • Lower speed and power density than AC motor models
  • Higher purchase price than models with a DC motor

Good to know: In many Jungheinrich electric pallet trucks, energy is recovered via a regenerative brake. This economical energy management ensures for a longer battery operating time.

Consider load capacity

You can tell whether a battery-powered pallet truck is suitable for the types of loads required to be transported in your company by noting the respective load capacity or rated load of the device: these indicate the maximum weight which may be loaded onto the truck.

The average weight of the loads to be transported regularly as well as expected peak loads are therefore important deciding factors when it comes to selecting an electric pallet jack from Jungheinrich. We offer a selection of electric pallet trucks with a load capacity or rated load of up to 2,000kg. To ensure that a truck is not overloaded, many of our models are fitted with an overload protection system.

Intensity of use

Jungheinrich powered pallet truck EJE 116

Depending on how often, how long and how intensively you want to use your electric pallet truck, it makes sense to purchase an industrial truck with a suitable performance range. For multi-shift operation, however, the type of battery installed is initially of secondary importance. When it comes to the duration and intensity of use, battery capacity and truck components – particularly the lift and drive motor – are the most important factors to consider and it is essential that they are suitable for multi-shift operation. Fully electric pallet jacks in the Jungheinrich Performance series are available with two-shift operation. This corresponds to a medium operating intensity of approx. 1,000 to 1,200 operating hours per year.

Selecting suitable tyres for your Jungheinrich electric pallet truck

Depending on the model, Jungheinrich electric lift trucks have a 3-, 4- or 5-point chassis, which includes a drive wheel, support wheels and fork rollers. For models required to operate high loads, fork rollers are also available in a tandem version. These dual rollers better distribute the weight, which is why they are particularly suitable for use on uneven ground or where speed humps are present. This results in smooth running, stable movement when moving the load and also reduces wear on the individual castors. Smooth-running wheels and rollers also mean effort-saving use and run-in rollers in the fork tip also make it easier to enter and exit the pallet.

To ensure that the wheels of your electric pallet truck will be sufficient for the transport tasks and surfaces in your company, you can choose from a range of trucks with varying castor and wheel types:

Should you choose a passenger or ride-on model?

Elektro-Niederhubwagen Jungheinrich EJE M15 mit Waage, Lithium-Ionen

Jungheinrich-brand electric pallet jacks are available with pedestrian-only operation. These trucks are operated by guiding the tiller, with the operator walking in front of or alongside the truck. By manoeuvring the towbar, the drive wheel is moved in the desired direction of travel. Pedestrian models are ideal for use on shorter transport routes. To ensure safe operation of the truck, models are generally equipped with several safety features:

  • long, low-set tiller ensures a safe distance between operator and vehicle
  • the steel cover on the drive wheel protects against injuries in the foot area
  • collision safety button
  • emergency stop button
  • crawl speed button for safe manoeuvring of the vehicle in confined spaces

Upon request, our customer advisors can advise you on further Jungheinrich electric pallet trucks with ride-on operation or combined pedestrian and ride-on operation:

  • Ride-on operation: Ride-on models allow you to drive the pallet jack from a permanently integrated driver's stand or driver's seat. They feature a shorter tiller and enable you to transport goods on longer routes without fatigue.
  • Combined pedestrian and ride-on operation: All steering and operating functions are carried out by an operator who either rides on or walks beside the truck. A foldable or permanently installed driver's platform can serve as a workstation in ride-on operation. These Jungheinrich electric pallet jacks are equipped with a short tiller and are perfect for transporting goods over medium distances.

Please note: As soon as electric pallet trucks with a permanently installed ride-on platform reach a speed of more than 6km/h in ride-on mode, an industrial truck licence (forklift licence) is required.

4. FAQ for Jungheinrich electric pallet trucks

Any electric pallet truck that can lift goods to a height of 300mm or more is subject to annual inspections. This is a legal requirement issued by the Health & Safety Executive. To ensure ongoing employee safety short operational test should also be carried out every day. This includes:

  • A visual inspection for externally visible damage or leaks
  • Start-up and braking test
  • Checking the lift truck hydraulics and oil level
  • Observation of the driving behaviour, especially during cornering and turning manoeuvres.

A driving licence for an electric pallet truck is only necessary if it can reach a speed of more than 6km/h by means of the drive motor. Additionally, training is not necessary if the truck is purely a passenger device, but as soon as the equipment has a fixed driver's seat or driver's cab, all employees operating the vehicle require a forklift licence.

Some Jungheinrich electric pallet jack models can be used outdoors for a short period of time. Ideally, you would only use the truck in dry weather conditions or in light rain only. In order to maintain the device and avoid unnecessary wear, you should nevertheless not use the device permanently in damp outdoor conditions.
