How to choose the right long fork pallet trucks

Just like our standard-length pallet trucks, our long pallet trucks are ideal for the horizontal transportation of palletised goods and are easy to operate and maintain.

While the standard fork length is 1150mm, our extra-long pallet jacks feature lengths between 1207mm and 2500mm. This makes them ideal for transporting pallets or other load carriers with non-standard sizing. In addition, they can also be used to pick up several pallets at the same time, significantly improving pallet handling speed and efficiency. Despite the special fork length, long pallet jacks remain highly manoeuvrable.

At Jungheinrich PROFISHOP you can buy these models from trusted brands including Jungheinrich and Ameise®, available in a range of configurations to suit your specific needs.

1. Determine fork length and carrying width of the long pallet trucks

The length and carrying width determine how each long fork pallet jack can be used and what load dimensions are most appropriate.

All pallet trucks within our range are suitable for processing extra-long pallets, Euro pallets width and lengthways, or multiple pallets simultaneously.

Long fork pallet trucks are available in the following lengths:

Brand Available special fork lengths
Jungheinrich AM 22
  • 1207mm
  • 1360mm
  • 1600mm
  • 1900mm
  • 2400mm
Jungheinrich AM 30
  • 1220mm
  • 1600mm
  • 1800mm
  • 2100mm
Ameise®
  • 1500mm
  • 1800mm
  • 2000mm
  • 2500mm

The Jungheinrich AM 22 series is also available with non-standard fork load width functionality. This is up to 680mm, as opposed to the standard fork load width of 520-540mm, allowing pallets to be manipulated in a range of configurations. Embossed markings on each model indicate the exact pallet placement each one supports.

2. Buy extra long pallet trucks with the required load capacity

Our standard long fork pallet trucks feature a maximum load capacity of 500-2200kg, depending on the model.

For heavy loads up to 3000kg (Jungheinrich AM 30) or even 3500kg (Ameise® PTM 2.0/3.5), these models are offered with an extra-stable design: Load capacity is maintained across the whole fork length – provided that the weight is evenly distributed and aligned with the load centre of gravity.

However, compared to standard models with a load capacity of up to 2200kg (Jungheinrich AM 22), the dead weight of these long pallet trucks is higher due to the added reinforcement of the forks.

For safe operation, it is essential to consider the load capacity of the respective model and to never overload the pallet jack. When selecting the correct model, it is also important to consider both average usage and peak load requirements.

Observing weight distribution and dimensioning best practices will help you achieve the maximum safe load capacity. Find more information on this in our guide: Carrying capacity for industrial trucks – Dimensioning loads correctly.

3. Roller equipment and tyres for long pallet trucks

All our long fork pallet jacks are equipped with two steering wheels and tandem fork rollers, making it easier to transport loads on uneven surfaces or over speed bumps. In addition, the load weight is better distributed on the double rollers, which means that loads can be moved with greater smoothness and stability. This also reduces the wear and tear of the individual rollers.

Tyre material can also be customised to best suit your operating conditions. We offer castors in the following materials:

4. Additional optional features for long fork pallet trucks

To make it both easier and more convenient to load, transport, and unload palletised and drive-under goods, some of our long fork jacks are equipped with additional practical features, including:

  • Quick lift: This function makes work easier if you often lift goods weighing less than 120kg or empty pallets. With just three pumping strokes, the hydraulic pallet is lifted floor-free and ready to be moved. With five pumping strokes, the maximum lifting height is achieved. For load weights over 120kg, the quick lift switches to the normal lift.
  • Grease Fittings: For long fork trucks from Ameise®, the grease fittings offer simplified maintenance and uncomplicated lubrication. The pallet truck bearing can be supplied with lubricating grease via the filler neck with a grease gun (Jungheinrich models instead feature maintenance-free Teflon bearings).
