How to find the right safety barrier
Barriers play a crucial role in identifying and safeguarding hazardous areas, indicating pathways for visitors and staff, or obstructing driveways to prevent unauthorised access. They are versatile and can be employed in a variety of settings such as warehouses, production facilities, parking lots, and driveways. Safety barriers complement marking and guidance systems and can also meet the demands of construction sites. At Jungheinrich PROFISHOP, a range of safety barriers with diverse sizes and types featuring yellow and black hazard warnings or red and white prohibition warnings are available. Additionally, some of these safety fences are equipped with reflectors for enhanced safety.
1. Types of safety barriers
Determining the most suitable barrier depends on the intended application:
Type of Barrier | Specifics and potential areas of application (examples): |
---|---|
Chain barriers |

Belt barriers |

Road blocks |

Barrier tapes |

2. Indoor or outdoor barriers
The indoor or outdoor suitability of a barrier primarily hinges on the materials it is composed of. Only those possessing ample weather resistance are appropriate for enduring outdoor use.
- Indoors: In principle, all our safety barrier products are suitable for indoor use, provided the sub-surface allows for any necessary assembly (such as embedding in concrete).
- Outdoors: Barriers made from materials such as polypropylene or polyurethane are durable and robust, and resistant to weather conditions and temperature variations. They are also unbreakable. Steel barriers are only recommended for outdoor use in their hot-dip galvanized form.
3. Temporary or permanent mounting
There are various traffic posts available for securing properties, such as collapsible, removable and fixed models. Each type is intended to provide a certain level of security, either by acting as a visual deterrent or offering physical impact resistance. The choice of permanent or temporary safety barriers depends on the level of access control and security measures required by a facility. These include:
- chain barriers
- warning signs
- barrier tapes
Barriers and safety fences are especially well-suited for durable and firmly anchored barriers that incorporate access control. These can be operated on site by a porter, remotely controlled, or automatically opened and closed with the use of sensors. Furthermore, some barriers can be used for both temporary and permanent installations.
- Belt barriers: These can be quickly set up without the need for assembly. Brackets can also be firmly mounted on walls to attach or remove straps as necessary.
- Barriers: Depending on the model, these can be flexibly set up without assembly (e.g., as a scissor gate) or fixed into the ground as a permanent installation.
- Barrier posts: Posts can be permanently installed or, depending on the model, extended, folded or sunk into the ground using a ground socket.
